Strain Stories
The story on the label. The story in the data.
Every strain name comes with a story: who bred it, where it came from, how strong it is, what it won. We check each one against CannaLib's lab tests, DNA panels and cup results, and print what holds up next to what doesn't.

One in three THC claims is higher than every lab test of that strain
We lined up 2,601 seed-bank and breeder THC claims against real flower lab tests sold under the same strain names. Plenty of packs promise more than any lab test we hold. Spoiler: the number on the front is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Indica or sativa? The DNA barely agrees with the label
We tested indica and sativa labels against public cannabis DNA. In modern strains the genetics predict about 15% of the label, like guessing a movie's ending from its trailer. THC and CBD balance shows up far more clearly.

The stairway is gone, the printouts aren't
A Montreal seed shop's website vanished in 2006. 18 scanned printouts from around 2000 are all we know of it. We fact-checked its claims and toured other lost cannabis resources to show how hard a trustworthy original source is to find.

Three rules
The same ones in every story, so you know what a number means before you quote it.
- 01
Every number has a source
Lab tests, DNA panels, cup results or a dated press piece. If we can't point to it, we don't print it.
- 02
Hedges as strong as the data
"A sample sold as X" is not "X". One sample can't prove a family tree, and we say so out loud.
- 03
The plant gets the last word
Folklore is fun. When the DNA disagrees with the story, the DNA goes in the headline.
